For information on how to get to Manarola, please check our page “info” - “Baranin” Our directions for cars are useful to reach Riomaggiore, Corniglia and Vernazza as well. As you may see on the map, the only difference is the final stretch. If you want to go to Monterosso, we advise you to drive to “Carrodano” exit on A12 motorway Genova-Livorno, then follow directions to Levanto-Monterosso. If you are travelling by train, the Italian railway timetable is available online at: www.trenitalia.com. You may find an international timetable (Europe) at www.bahn.de.

Parking the car is a major concern for our clients. That is partly justified by the fact that parking spots may not be easy to find, especially during high-season and, even more, on Saturday afternoon. If you arrive in peak periods, we suggest you to wait until another car frees up a parking space (there’s a steady flow of cars and likely a free space will be available within 10/15 minutes) or drive up the road and find a free parking slot along the straight sections of the road. Even if the village may seem quite far off, don’t despair: you will not need the car until your departure. All in all... it’s time to forget your worries, because Cinque Terre were made for walkers! And that is definitely what makes Cinque Terre so special.

Whether you arrived by train or by car, train is always the best means of transport to visit the other villages and the coast. We suggest to forget about the car and avoid the hassle of finding a parking slot every time you move it. Usually, from November to March, regional trains run every 60 to 90 minutes in both ways until approx. 00.15 at night. During high season, approximately between April and October, the “Cinque Terre Express” is active and trains run much more frequently, every 15 to 30 minutes. You may opt to alternate train trips with walking trails and ferry trips, the latter operating regular service (with the exception of Corniglia) when allowed by weather conditions. www.navigazionegolfodeipoeti.it is the website of the main local ferry line. Usually the ferry service is suspended between November and March. Your car may be useful only for medium-haul tours (such as Lunigiana, Garfagnana, Genoa, Pisa, etc.) and we therefore don’t recommend to use it to move locally during your stay.

There are no sandy beaches in Manarola, but rocky cliffs. Such cliffs are typical of the coast between Porto Venere and Levanto, with the exception of the Monterosso sandy beach and the small beach inside Vernazza’s marina. The quality of water in Manarola is especially good and it has been awarded with Legambiente 5***** stars in the past 2 years. Despite the lack of beaches, you can swim anywhere, in particular in the “Scalo” and “Palaedo”, once used to launch boats, and by the railway station. Please pay attention to rough seas: it is very dangerous to swim here if you are not perfectly aware of the structure of the seabed. More information at www.cinqueterre.com/ita/information/sea.

Cinque Terre trails are accessible from all coastal villages and minor hamlets on surrounding hills. Indeed, trails were once the only connection between villages and between the coast and the backcountry. Trail #1 can be reached by the tracks starting in the higher part of villages. You will then have to walk towards the Sanctuary hosted in uphill hamlets. Trail # 6 to Volastra is a few minutes walk from our property.

There is no admission ticket to Cinque Terre. You may buy the “Cinque Terre Card”, the service card of the National Park of Cinque Terre, through which you have access to the Green and Blue trail, trains and buses to minor villages. It can be purchased at National Park’s information point located in the railway stations of Cinque Terre, La Spezia and Levanto. Depending on your plans, the Card may be the most convenient option. For more information and up-to-date prices, service offer and options, please visit the National Parks’ Portal here.
